(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1981-138
INSPECTION DATE 04/25/2007 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS DEZ
OBSERVATIONS
This routine monitoring inspection of Permit Number M-1981-138 (Gravel Pit #17 -Glover Pit) was conducted by Tony Waldron
and Deb E. Zack of the DRMS. No Baca County representative was available for this inspection. The pit is located
approximately 2 miles south and 19 miles east of Campo, CO near the intersection of county roads G and 48, and currently
consists of approximately 9.5 acres, all of which are considered active.
The mine entrance sign was posted, and permit boundaries were marked with tires. At the time of this inspection it was noted
that some of the regrading has been done on this site, but not all, which is consistent with the possibility of future expansion into
the area to the east that may be mined in the future under a possible conversion to a 112c operation. The northwest corner of
the permit area has been regraded to an acceptable slope of 3h:1v or less steep (see photo 1) and should be considered an
example of the slopes that should exist upon reclamation completion. Versus the southwestern slope (see photo 2), which
appeared to be steeper than the approved reclamation plan requires. The Division recommends that submission of the
conversion application should include a minor expansion to the west as well as to the east, to provide more room for regrading
the southwestern portion of the site to an appropriate slope.
Topsoil was stockpiled around the western permit boundary along the perimeter of the pit
It is the understanding of this inspector that a conversion application maybe submitted in the near future to incorporate apre-
law mined area to the east of the current pit (see photos 3-4). Information was mailed by the Division to Baca County that
explains the procedures for that revision, along with a copy of an example application.
All activities and completed work at the time of inspection appeared to follow the guidelines and regulations set forth by the
state and in the mining and reclamation plans for the pit. At the time of this inspection there appeared to be no long-term
(greater than 72 hours) water retention.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Deb E. Zack at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety,
Denver Office, 1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, Colorado 80203, phone number 303-866-4179.
I & E Contact Address cc:
^ CE
NAME Pete Dawson ^ BL
OPERATOR Baca County ^ FS
STREET 741 Main Street ^ Hyt!
CITY/STATE/ZIP Springfield.
