<br />III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the <br />inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or <br />evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />This partial inspection of the Hamilton Coal Mine was conducted by Wally Erickson <br />from the DMG Durango Office, 484 Turner Drive, Building F, Suite 101, Durango, CO <br />81301, phone 1970) 247-5469. No activities were observed, no mine personnel <br />encountered during the time of this inspection. <br />Signs & Markers -Mine identification sign was posted at the mine entrance. Permit <br />boundary markers were observed. Topsoil stockpile signs were posted. <br />Roads -Access to the mine site is provided by Montrose County Road HH31 from Hwy <br />141. Mine roads were dry and well maintained. Road side drainage ditches were <br />functional. Surface drainage from the mine entrance road is treated for sediment by <br />silt fence. Silt fence were loose from their posts. Road culverts were clear and <br />functional. <br />Hydrologic Balance -Sediment pond A, located at the far north end of the permit area, <br />was dry. Primary and secondary spillways appeared clear and stable. Pond <br />embankment appeared stable. <br />Sediment pond B, located at the NE corner of the permit area was dry. Primary and <br />secondary spillways appeared clear and stable. Massive pond embankment was well <br />vegetated and stable. Evidence of minor erosion was observed at the two ditch inlets <br />into pond B. <br /> <br />
