COMMENTS - COMPLIANC
Below are comments on the mspecuon. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection Comments also describe any enforcement acUOns taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining. and Safety (Division). This former, contour step operation is bond
revoked. All remaining funds from the bond revocation at this site were spent in 2004 for
ditch repairs. Inspection frequency is quarterly, with one complete inspection each year.
Ground conditions on this day were dry and the weather was cool and mild.
Roads
The road leading south into the Section 22 area was passable by vehicle but rough in places
due to lack of maintenance. Cross drains are head-cutting back into the roadway in some
places. This light-use road serves only the landowner in this area on an infrequent basis.
Hydrologic Balance
Severe erosion continues in the ditch to the north and east of the reclaimed area of pond 15-
P1. This ditch was most recently repaired in 2004
Many of the ponds
at the site held
modest amounts of
water, including
pond 22-P5, 22-P6,
and the final pond
(un-named) at the
end of ditch 22-D3,
shown at right.
Pond embankments
appeared stable with
no sign of damage
or seeps. - ~ - -
_ a :
Reveaetatlon ~ -.- y ~!'~ o : •.r~v v :~' ~,~:,-,.~~".`-~4;y"~,'.' ?~S
Cool season grasses ; .~ r ~ ,T~-'~ _ -.-~ ~'°~2--_-z ~ -h: =
including smooth .rte -,. ~ . j- ~~~ `}~ ~' y~ ~ -''~ Y
brome and western ~:~Y ~,'I~~f ~.~, ^` •' "'ua.`..,,,~, ~ .mss;;
wheatgrass are e- '"~~--~ ~,_' - _ ' < '.: ya ~,`t ~ ~ - ~~.'a 3;.'
growing vigorously - ~.n
due to warming temperatures following good waiter nu~isture Rills and gullies seem to have
stabilized in most areas where vegetation is established. Cattle were not observed on the
reclaimed area or in the adjacent Delagua Canyon bottom.
The reclaimed area of pond 15-P1, shown below. is also showing new growth for the season
