i..^_
III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
On May 12, 1997, William J. Carter and Joe Dudash from the Division of Minerals and Geology
performed a partial inspection of the Ohio Creek # 2 Mine in Gunnison County. This is a revoked
mine and therefore no company representative was present.
Roads•
The County road going to the mine site was in good and stable condition.
Hydrologic Balance:
• All drainage from the disturbed area appears to be directed to the sediment pond.
• The pond was dry at the time of the inspection.
• During the inspection, the primary drain and collection ditch were cleaned to assure
continued functioning.
• There appears to be some seepage from the old portal area at this time.
Backtill and Grading:
• ;.ills have formed on the site due to drainage being concentrated into the center.
• Most of the damage to drainage ditches, crossing the slope, was corrected during the
inspection.
IFista a_nd Wildlife:
~~ ~ The need for clearing the primary drain on the sediment pond was due to a rodent digging
into the containment sttvcture and the spoil covering the drain.
• Some type of rodent control may be required, in the future, if the structural integrity
continues to be compromised.
]Reo~egetation•
Vegetation is starting to germinate at the site.
afforded as [he season progresses.
A better determination of its success will be
Slides and Damage:
As noted above there is some minor erosion damage on the face of the slope below the previous
portal uea.
