III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This partial inspection of the Arness McGriffen Mine was conducted by DMG staff from the
Durango Office, 701 Camino del Rio, Room 125, Durango, CO 81301, phone (970) 247-
5469. The permit for the Arness McGriffen Mine was revoked over 5 years ago. Financial
warranty was forfeited and utilized for final reclamation. No activities were observed, no
personnel encountered during the time of this inspection.
No changes were observed since the last inspection.
The cable gate across the mine access road was open. Public access to the site and
adjacent state lands is controlled by locked cable closure. Reclamation efforts may benefit
from the controlled access.
Portions of the reclaimed area have been adversely impacted by off-road traffic and illegal
dumping.
Access road exhibited evidence of erosion in the roadside drainage ditch and to the driving
surface. Guardrail, constructed of timbers and cable was intact. Soil conditions were dry.
