INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 3
FILE N0. 82-90
DATE: July 11, 1985
C~
regrading if the pile is constructed in lifts and bends back to achieve
2H:1V slopes. The Division is willing to discuss this matter further
with the operator. The Division is concerned about the geotechnical
stability of the pi°oposed 150 foot ambankment above Canyon Creek.
See Recommendation No. 2.
6. Topsoil and suitable growth medium (colluvium) had been salvaged. A
letter in our file indicates that the topsoil stockpile was reseeded.
It was observed that the stockpile was not revegetated. It was
discussed that once topsoil is salvaged and stockpiled it should not be
mixed with waste rock or tailings or disturbed by machinery. Topsoil
stockpiles should be located in areas of low activity and protected
until used for final reclamation.
7. The Division appreciates the cooperation of Federal Resources.
RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Regrade the dam crest to seal tension or settlement cracks. "Dress up"
riprap on the Canyon Creek side of dam for channel bank stability and
protection. D50 riprap of one (1) foot should be used. This work
should be accomplished prior to September 1, 1985.
2. Review recommendations of the geotechnical analysis and construct the
tailings pile in accordance with the recommendations of that report
(Charles C. Bowman Associates, Inc. - April, 193).
PCS/mis
cc: Federal Resources
2447E
