Enforcement
action fortuoming.
1. The use of excess overburden to backfilZ the lake to increase .shoreline irregularity
in the Lake is a very good idea and seems to be progressing well.
2. Some of the old stockpiled overburden may remain as low hills in final reclamation.
3. In general, reclamation seems to be proceeding quite well.
4. A possible technical revision due to a slowdown in mining was mentioned in the 1980
annual report.
5. No 1981 annual report and fee irr the file.
RECCI`~I`iDAT•i0N5:
1. When the backfilled areas have been finished, the final slopes should be 3H:1v from 5'
above to 10' below the expected water line and 2f1:iV otherwise. This is true of any of
the finished slopes of the Sake.
2. The topsoil and overburden stocF:piles should be planted with a pc-rennial grass cover crop
if they are to remain undisturbed for one growing season or longer. A good cxampl.e is
Western wheatgrass at 6 lbs. PIS/acre.
3. If the old overburden piles do remain as Ior.~ hills in final rnclamation, this may have
to be a modification to the reclamation permit. A tr~ciuricol revision that describes how
they will be graded and planted would be adequate.
4. Same excess overburden may be used on the other valco pit to the southwest of Rocky
Ford. There is a Shortage of topsoil there. This is, of course, only a suggestion.
5. Will a technical revision still be necessary?
6. The I98Z ann~~u"a"""l re ort and 5350 annual fee should he sent to our Division. Also, the 198:'
IT15I7ECtE:d by: r'iI~L~L s..~. ~t~ report and fee will be due this coming Febrnazy.
Rec].~atipn Soecalist
I.1SL/mmt
