III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection The comments include discussion of observations made <br />during the mspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection <br />and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action <br />This was a complete inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of <br />Minerals and Geology (Division). This former mountaintop removal operation is now <br />reclaimed and has achieved a Phase I bond release for most areas. Ground conditions on <br />this day were very dry and the weather was unseasonably hot. Ron Thompson of Peak <br />Prolect Management met me at the site and accompanied me on the inspection. <br />Avalabddv of Records <br />The public copy of the mine records is kept at the office of Peak Project Management (PPM). <br />The contact, address, and phone number for PPM is Ron Thompson, Peak Project <br />Management, 34115 County Road 20.8. Trinidad, CO 81082, 719-846-4975. Records were <br />found in compliance as detailed on page 2a of this report. <br />Roads <br />The second culvert ascending the Jeff Canyon haul road has been cleaned of additional <br />sediment. The operator should watch this culvert to ensure that future storm runoff flushes <br />remaining sediment from the middle section of the culvert and does not become blocked. <br />Road surfaces are well-maintained and road ditches and culverts appeared in good <br />condition. <br />Hydrologic Balance <br />All ponds are now dry due <br />to contrnumg dry conditions. <br />The rainfall that occurred <br />on the evening of May 22`'' • <br />did not result in any runoff ,~- ,~„~.~~, <br />Pond 9 is now dry and the - , ;_ , -`~ <br />sediment marker can be ~~ _ =~'"'qp~~~~ <br />eastly reset in this pond ~~,. ,;;.. ~ "~ <br />~• <br />Revegetation <br />Regional drought ui <br />southern Colorado has <br />~^•, . - <br />resulted in mirnmal new •"4".• --~ - - ~~ ~_ " <br />vegetation growth this ~ ~::: , =_ - - <br />season.
