(Page 2)
MINfi ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1977-197
INSPECTION DATE 9/27/05
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was an inspection of the Main Pit conducted by Erica Crosby of the Colorado Division of
Minerals and Geology. Fred Baldwin of Hard Rock Paving & Redi-Mix, inc. was present during
the inspection. The site is located 1 mile south of Salida in Chaffee County, Colorado.
The Main Pit is a 112 sand and gravel operation, permitted for 37.17 acres. The 110 permit
was issued on April 21, 1982 for 9.6 acres. In 1999 the permit was converted to a 112 permit
(CN-O1) to add 27.57 acres to the permit area for a total of 37.17 acres. The Division holds
a reclamation bond in the amount of $55,000.00. The approved postmining land use is
recreational for the private land ownership and rangeland on the BLM acreage (9.6 acres).
A mine identification sign was observed at the entrance to the site. Permit boundary markers
were noted on site. Mining was actively taking place during the inspection. The BLM area
was mined last year. Product stockpiles were noted in the bottom of the pit. According to
the CN-O1 application, the batch plant and office area are not included in the permit area
because historically it has been used as the batch plant, garage and office and material used
in the plant is not solely form the Main Pit, but is also brought in from the Highway 291 Pit
(M-1977-195) and the Buena Vista Pit M-1977-196).
The only reclamation noted on site was some minor grading on the north end of the pit.
Broken concrete and asphalt is stored in the pit to recycle in the plant. According to the
operator it is not used as backfill material. If the material is ever to be used as
backfill, the operator will need to meet the requirements of Rule 3.1.5(9).
Topsoil and overburden piles were noted along the perimeter of the permit area. The operator
is required to spread topsoil to a depth of 4-6 inches. The operator should be reminded that
topsoil and overburden piles must stockpiled in separate piles.
I & S Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Ms. Denise Gonzales ^ BL
OPERATOR Hard Rock Paving & Redi-Mix, Inc. ^ FS
STREET PO Box 1720 ^ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Canon City, CO 81215-1720 ^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
cc: Carl Mount; DMG (via a-mail)
