(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1999-021
INSPECTION DATE 03/07/06
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was a routine inspection of the Stegner Farms Pit conducted by Erica Crosby of the
Division of Minerals and Geology. Connie Davis of Aggregate industries- WCR, Inc. was
present during the inspection.
The Stegner Farms Pit is located 1/2 mile southeast of LaPorte in Larimer County,
Colorado. An 112c Mining and Reclamation Permit was issued on March 6, 2000 for a permit
area of 80 acres in size. The postmining land use is developed water resources and the
Division holds a financial warranty in the amount of $273,400.00.
No mining was taking place during the inspection. According to the operator, mining
temporarily ceased in 2003. Site maintenance has occurred on site including installation
of the perimeter drain system around the slurry wall, reshaping of the overburden piles
and weed control measures. The remaining area to be mine is in the northwest corner of
the site, and contains approximately 200,000 tons of material. Aggregate Industries
anticipates contracting out the remainder of the mining this year due to the lack of
company presence in the Fort Collins area. If Aggregate Industries is unable to secure a
contractor or does not anticipate mining this year, the site will need to be put in
temporary cessation (TC) status. See Rule 1.13 of the Construction Materials Rules and
Regulations for detail on the TC requirements.
On November 1, 2004, the Division approved TR-04 that describes the perimeter drain
designs around the north and west boundaries of the slurry wall. The drain design includes
eight-inch perforated pipe to be used throughout the groundwater interception areas,
transitioning to an 8-inch solid pipe. The a-inch pipe is transitioned to a 6-inch
perforated pipe in the downgradient re-charge area. Pipes are covered with gravel wrapped
in geotextile filter fabric. Aggregate industries is committed to monitoring the existing
wells until reclamation is complete and the site is released from reclamation liability.
According to the operator, the drain was completed in the fall of 2005. The operator will
need to revegetate the areas recently disturbed with the installation of the drain to
prevent the encroachment of weeds.
I & 8 Coatact Addrase
NAME Connie Davie
^ CE
^ BL
OPERATOR Aggregate Industries-WCR, Inc. ^ FS
STREET 1707 Cole Blvd., Suite 100 ^ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Golden, CO 80401 ^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
Cc: Carl Mount; DMG
