jPage 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: ~-iQV9-~x'~
INSPECTION DATE: 8/~1/ne INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: A IW
OBSERVATIONS
This was an acreage reduction request inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG. The site is located
approximately 4 miles south of the Town of Kim, Colorado, The pit is situated along the toe-slope of a small
mesa or sandstone outcrop. The surrounding area is short-grass prairie typical to this area of Eastern Colorado.
This site was originally permitted by the Colorado Department of Highways and transferred over to Las Animas
County in 1989. The area where the county is requesting an acreage reduction was never mined and has not
been disturbed since the county has been the lead operator. The state used the area briefly as a staging area
for an asphalt plant. The main disturbance that likely occurred probably resulted from vehicle traffic in and
around the plant while it was in operation. Due to the minimal disturbance incurred, the area has vegetated
naturally through invasion from adjacent undisturbed areas and natural recovery of the grasses and shrubs
present prior to its use as an asphalt staging area. Based on this inspection, the 1.09 acres included in this
acreage reduction/release request are eligible for full release. Approval of this request will leave 8.70 acres in
the active permit area.
The operator indicated that their intent is to add an equivalent amount of land (1.09 acres) to the remaining
permit area via the Technical Revision/Amendment process in order to expand the mineable portion of their
pit. A policy memo describing how Phis process works is included with this report.
This concluded the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Phil Dorenkamo
OPERATOR: Las Animas County~oad and Bridge
STREET: 9000 N I inden Ava
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Trinirlarl Cn R1nR9
cc: I CE
I BL
t FS
I' H W
T HMWMD (CH)
r SE
t WOCD (CH)
t OTHER
