(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1977-346
INSPECTION DATE 04/10/07 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
OB58RVATIONS
This was an inspection of the Boettcher Gypsum Quarry conducted by Erica Crosby of the
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. Gordon Benton of Holcim (US) Inc., Bill
Schenderlein and Cali Baueu of Applegate Group, Inc. were present during the inspection.
The Boettcher Gypsum Quarry is located 9 miles north of Buckeye in Larimer County. A 112
Mining and Reclamation Permit was issued to Ideal Basic Industries, Inc. on October 10,
1978 for a permit area of 110 acres. The permit was transferred to Holnam, Inc. on March
23, 1990 and then to Holcim (US), Inc. April 14, 2003. The Division currently holds a
financial warranty in the amount of $38,000.00.
The site has been in temporary cessation status (TC) since May 23, 1996. The gypsum
occurs on an outcrop and is mined in 12-16 foot thick beds. The west side of the quarry
has been reclaimed to 3h:ly slopes. A rock pile at the base of the slope will need to be
removed upon final reclamation of the site. It does not appear that this area has been
revegetated to date.
On the east side of the quarry mining occurred on the exposed gypsum outcrop. Any
remaining benches and highwalls will need to be reclaimed. The reclamation plan states
that contours of the quarries will be smoothed to blend with surrounding terrain and break
down any walls left to a slope not exceeding 3h:iv. Any topsoil encountered during the
mining operations will be stockpiled and then re-spread on the floors of the quarries or
other areas of low erosion potential and seeded with native grasses. The approved seed
mixture consists of Little bluestem (5 lbs PLS/acre), Side-oats grama (6 lbs. PLS/acre),
Indian ricegrass (8 lbs PLS/acre) and True mountain mahogany (y, lbs. PLS/acre).
I & 8 Contact Address
NAME Gordon Benton
OPERATOR
STREET
CITY/STATE/ZIP
Holcim (US), Inc.
PO Box 1548
LaPorte, CO 80535
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
~ WQCD (CH)
Cc: Carl Mount; DRMS
Bill Schenderlein; Applegate Group, Inc.
