(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-2005-071
INSPECTION DATE 4-4-2006
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
This was a second pre-operation inspection of the proposed Benson Brothers Red Shale Pit mine site conducted as a training
exercise for three new Environmental Protection Specialists, one of whom is an engineer who will be working with DMG
engineer Allen Sorenson on the evaluation of potential vibration affects on stability of cliffs located south of, and adjacent to the
proposed site.
The site was walked with topography, vegetation details and drainage patterns being noted.
The cliffs were observed from the county road below and from the Benson Brothers property above. The residences of Larry
and Janice Chick and Janet Croissant were noted below the cliffs located outside the south side of the proposed permit area.
There are several outbuildings on these properties that lie close to the outslope below the cliffs, but are not within 200 feet of
the proposed operation. Numerous boulders were noted scattered among the buildings at the base of this slope.
The drainage basin above the site, the location of the now reclaimed Red Canyon Coal Mine, was also observed and success
of the revegetation efforts, including heavy use of the reclamation by wildlife, was noted.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Steve Shuey at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3r° Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone number 970-243-6368.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Ed Benson
OPERATOR Benson Brothers
STREET 21240 Austin Road
CITY/STATE/ZIP Austin.
