.~
'~ N
INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 2
FILE N0. M-77-223
DATE: April 17~ 1985
OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:
N
1. The operation was inactive at time of inspection.
2. Pit w~s were vertical, approximately 20 to 30 feet in height.
3. Stage backfilled and graded, requires topsoiling and revegetation
efforts.
4. The topsoil stockpiled was graded and stabilized through natural
revegetation.
5. Through pacing, the pit dimensions were estimated to be 200 yds by 120
yds, or approximately 5 acres.
6. Overburden "mounds" were present North of the current pit area.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Reclamation should continue in Stage I
2. Reclamation should commence at the southern end of the current pit
excavation; vertical walls should be pushed down or backfilled to attain
permit provision slopes, followed by grading, topsoil replacement, and
revegetation efforts.
3. An amendment or technical revision in its final form, should be submitted
by May 15, 1985 allowing discussion between Valco, Inc. and the Division, such
that it may be finalized by the July 24-25, 1985 Board Meeting. Please
address any changes from the approved Permit including, but not limited to:
a. The mine's sporadic operation; mining occurs less than 180 days per
year, and this does not constitute "Temporary Cessation";
b. Possible change in mining plan, timing sequence of phases, total
acreage of affected land expected, and the decision concerning the plant
location;
c. Financial Warranty recalculation; costs incurred by a local
contractor hired to reclaim the potential maximum disturbance at any one
time (25.5A), according to those plans outlined in the Permit
Application.
