(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1997-026
INSPECTION DATE 8-1-02
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program of the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology.
The Carol Ann Pit is located just east of Gypsum, Colorado on Highway 6. The Pit is a 112c permitted site with approximately
20 out of the 30 acres disturbed.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule 3.1.12. The sign
is located at the entrance to the site. Boundary markers consist of fence lines and daylighted slopes to the north.
Noxious and/or problematic weed infestation was observed within the affected area (Russian Knapweed and Canadian
Thistle). The infestation, if not controlled, will most likely hinder and/or delay successful reclamation of this site and contribute
to off-site spreading and establishment of these weeds. A weed control plan developed in consultation with, and approved
by, the appropriate local weed control authority must be submitted as a technical revision to this permit. Weed infestation is
noted as a problem, with the corrective action(s) and correction date specified on the last page of this report. Significant
progress toward control of on-site weeds must be demonstrated within three years to avoid potential Board action. A copy of
this report will be sent to the appropriate weed control authority for this area.
Irrigation water has created an exposure of groundwater in the eastern portion of the pit. B&B has dug a collection channel
that routes the water to the northeast corner of the pit. The operator is actively working on changing the current water
discharges permits to address this problem. This issue is not being listed as a problem at this time as the operator is already
taking corrective actions. Copies of the documentation on the issue to and from the State Engineer should be fonrrarded to
this office for the permit file.
No significant erosional features were noted on the affected areas of the site. Stormwater generated on the site is directed
to a gully in the central portion of the site. Silt fencing in good repair is in place to prevent sedimentation issues. All roads are
adequately maintained to prevent erosion.
The reclamation cost estimate was not recalculated as part of this inspection. The current estimate was calculated less than
five years ago and the operation is in compliance with the approved mine plan and reclamation plan. Therefore, the current
financial warranty is believed to be adequate to reclaim the site per the approved reclamation plan.
No other issues were observed of concern.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Jason Burkev
OPERATOR B&B Excavating.
