(Page 2) •
S MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-92-108
INSPECTION DATE 07-27-98 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
OBSERVATI
This was an inspection of the Bad Boy Stone Mine conducted by Erica Crosby of the Colorado Division
of Minerals and Geology. The inspection was conducted at the request of the operator to ensure that
the mine site was in compliance with the permit and the Rules and Regulations. Pablo Vasques and Doug
Bachli were present during the inspection. Weather conditions on site were clear and warn. Ground
conditions were dry.
The Bad Boys Stone quarry is a 110 operation, permitted to affect 6.7 acres. There are two pits
located on site. According to [he operator, the northern pit (old mine) has been completely mined.
The operator stated [hat this pit will be reclaimed with fill material adjacent to the pit and
material stockpiled to [he south. The pit encompasses roughly 1 acre and is roughly 3' to 4' deep.
The existing/future pit is much larger and deeper than the old pie. The pit is in the south part of
the permit area, and is roughly 3 acres in size. The highwall side of the pit is roughly 25 feet deep
and 210 feet long. The reclamation plan states that this pit will be reclaimed to a grade of 3h:ly.
The permit also states that topsoil will be placed throughout the site to a depth of 2" to 5^. No
topsoil piles were noted in the permit area. The operator needs to salvage topsoil from any area that
will be mined, and stockpile the material for future use. IC appears than an ae~equate amount of
topsoil can be salvaged as the pit expands to the north.
Permit markers could~noc be located in the field. It appears that the two pits fall within the
disturbed area depicted on the map. The operator needs to install permit boundary markers, and submit
photo documentation chat the markers were installed within 60 days of the receipt of this report.
A mine ID sign was also noted, but was difficult to read.
The Division currently holds $1,400.00 to reclaim the site. This number was based on a maximum
disturbance of 2 acres. Roughly 4-5 acres are affected by mining to date. The Division reevaluated
the amount of required bond based on the noted disturbance and the information in the permit. The
Division estimates $11,500.00 is required to reclaim the site. This amount includes backfilling the
two pits to a 3:1 slooe, topsoil replacement, and revegetation. A formal letter requesting the
additional bond will be submitted to the operator. IE the one rator reclaims the old pit, then the
required bond will be reduced to $8,300. To receive the reduced bond amount, the operator will need
to send photographs of the reclaimed area co the Division. The operator can also lower the required
bond amount by changing the reclamation plan in the permit.
I & E Contact Address
~ CE
NAME Pablo Vasquez ~ BL
OPERATOR ~ FS
STREET 11495 Weld County Rd 20 ~ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Ft.
