This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology (Division) This year is the tenth growing season for the reclaimed area at the main facility disturbance, Chuck Florian of Greystone Environmental Consultants was planrnng to begin vegetation sampling late on July 10`". Reveaetation Mr. Florian was not present when I arrived at the site but was planning to arrive late in the afternoon, I traversed the reference area and most of the larger reclaimed facility area. including the topsoil borrow area. the development waste pile, and the reclaimed areas of former pond 3 and pond 5 Due to numerous rain and thunderstorms within the previous ten days, vegetation was beginning to show more significant growth for the season as compared to previous tnspecUons this year. Prior to those rains. new vegetation growth was minimal at best. Fresh growth of grasses and fortis was evident In many areas. Some areas still appear slow to respond, like the upper portion of the topsoil borrow area and portions of the pond 3 reclaimed area, Rangeland transects 10 and 12. and pastureland transects 4. 10, 12, 14, and 15 are located in these areas, respectively. New growth of smooth brome was observed in these areas but plants appeared small and sparse. Other areas showed a more diverse plant cover. with grass species such as western whew grass and the forb species vetch observed. Mr. Florian discussed this issue prior to starting sampling with Dan Mathews of the Division. Mr. Florian confirmed that he was randomly locating the quadrat along each transect, which satisfies the Divisions concern. Overall. this reclaimed site appeared in fair condition for the early summer season.
