(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1974-092
INSPECTION DATE 04/09/03
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS RS
This was an inspection of the Barlow Pit conducted by Gregg Squire of the Division of
Minerals and Geology. Doug Dowling representing Dorn Ready Mix was present during the
inspection. Weather conditions on site were clear and windy. Ground conditions were dry.
The main reason for the inspection was to re-evaluate the reclamation bond since the Division
had recently received a notice that the operator's insurance company planned to cancel the
current Corporate Surety Bond. If the operator does not provide the Division with a
replacement bond the operator will be scheduled for a Formal Public Hearing at the May 28-29,
2003 Board Hearing. The Division normally re-examines an operation's financial warranty when
an insurance company notifies the Division that it plans to cancel a bond.
No mining was taking place during the inspection. The operator usually has the pit dredged
about once a year and then operates from the stockpiles until they are depleted.
At the time of the inspection the operator was backfilling along the south side of the pit,
between the pit and I-76. By backfilling this area the operator has established a buffer
zone of 200 feet between the pit and the interstate. He has also reduced the under-water
slopes in the backfilled areas. There is a large stockpile of topsoil stored on the north
side of the permit area, northwest of the pit area. Because of the ongoing reclamation at
the site, and the limited area of surface disturbance, it appears that the currently
estimated $6,000.00 financial warranty is adequate to reclaim the site.
A mine identification sign was posted at the entrance to the site. The permit boundaries can
be identified by the permit ID sign, I-76 and fence and tree lines adjacent to the site.
No problems were noted during the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
j' CE
NAME Douc Dowlino r' BL
OPERATOR Dorn Readv Mix r' FS
STREET P.O.
