w~
INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 2
FILE N0. M-78-107
DATE: July 2, 1985
OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:
1. Pit walls (20 to 30 feet high) were nearly vertical. The Division staff
suggested that mining should continue, thereby creating the 3:1 slopes
required for final reclamation.
2. Gravel stockpiles were on site.
3. There was no apparent "topsoil" for stockpiling/reclamation purposes.
4. Some gravel-laden material had sloughed off, or was pushed into, the
drainage located beyond the southern permit boundary. The Division
recommends that a berm be built along the southern permit boundary to
prevent further off-site deposition.
5. Mr. Weaver suggested that Montezuma County may amend their permit to
include acreage west of the drainage.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. An amendment should be submitted:
a. Increasing the affected land acreage to include that area disturbed
by the "sloughed" material;
b. Providing plans to reclaim that area disturbed by the "sloughing";
and,
c. Increasing the affected land acreage to include lands west of the
drainage, if so desired.
2. Please submit the 1985 annual report and map on the November 2 permit
issuance anniversary date.
CMF/ddt
2471E
