<br /> <br />(Page 21 <br />MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # <br />INSPECTION DATE 8/12/98 <br />INSPECTOR'S INITIALS WHE <br />This inspection occurred as part of DMG review process for amendment application (AM-01) for <br />the Tozer Pit. The Tozer Pit is located approximately 12.5 miles SW from Cortez, in portions of <br />the SW 1/4 and SE 1/4 of Section 36, T36N, R18W, NMPM, Montezuma County. The amendment <br />application is to expand the current 12.9 acre permit area to 53.8 acres. The 40.5 expansion area <br />is located beyond the SW side of the current permit boundary, on BLM land, in portions of the SE <br />1 /4 of the SW 1 /4 of Section 36, T36N, R18W, NMPM, Montezuma County. <br />Records: The original permit was issued to Montezuma County on 10/29/81, for the extraction <br />of road construction materials, 3 acres affected area. On 1 /1 /88, the permit was converted to a <br />112 operation and expanded to 12.9 acres. DMG records do not indicate additional revisions or <br />modifications to the permit. <br />Sign/Markers: Mine identification sign was posted at the mine entrance. Public access is <br />controlled by locked gate at mine entrance. Approximate permit boundary was delineated. Please <br />note that Rule 3.1.1212) requires that the operator delineate the boundary of affected area with <br />markers or monuments. <br />Existing Disturbance: Operations were dormant during the time of this inspection. Mining and <br />processing equipment were absent. Stockpiles of processed material, unsorted material and/or <br />overburden were located on the pit floor. Pit floor was gravel surfaced and graded to provide <br />positive drainage to the north. East side pit highwalls had been reduced to approximate a 3H:1 V <br />slope and revegetated. However, portions of the reclaimed east side slopes had been redisturbed <br />along the toe of the slope. Portions of the west side pit highwalls appeared steeper than 3H:1 V. <br />Vegetative cover included Yellow sweet clover, Indian ricegrass, Rubber rabbitbrush, Sage, <br />Greasewood, Kochia, Downy brome, and Russian thistle. <br />Expansion Area: Portions of the expansion area, proposed under AM-01, were inspected. A pre- <br />existing jeep trail, from CR-G, enters the area along the north end and proceeds through to the <br />south end. No additional permanent man-made structures were identified.
