(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1996-008
INSPECTION DATE: 5-23-06
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division of
Minerals and Geology. The North R-34 Pit is a 112c permitted site located on the western side of the Uncompahgre
River across from the Western Gravel main facility south of Montrose, Colorado. Dean Hovey, representative for
Western Gravel, accompanied the inspector on site.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule 3.1.12.
Western Gravel has resigned most or all of their permitted sites with new, easy to read signs. T-posts and other
stakes mark the permit boundaries.
No significant infestations of noxious or other problematic weeds were noted on site during this inspection.
Knapweed was noted within the permit boundaries. Spring spraying is scheduled to begin soon at all Westem sites.
Some tamarisk and Russian olive are noted in the area outside the permit area. Monitoring and control of these
species should be diligenU
Current disturbance is located in Phase 1 of the permit area. The pit area is flooded which is normal for this time of
year. The operator has provided documentation of an approved augmentation plan from the water courts concerning
the exposure of the water. The site is primarily used in the winter due to its close proximity to the main plant area.
No trash or mining related debris is noted on site. No off-site damage was observed. The site is being well
maintained and impact to the river appears to be minimal.
No issues aze noted at this time. The reclamation bond for this site will be updated. No conditions on site warrant
significant changes in the tasks from the last update in 2001. Therefore, staff will use those tasks and fgures to
update the bond in the next 30 days.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology,
Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3`d Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-
1117.
I & E Contact Address cc:
^ CE
NAME: Dean Hovev ^ BL
OPERATOR: Western Gravel ^ FS
STREET: 3001 Townsend ^ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Montrose, CO 81401 ^ HMWMD (CH)
^ WQCD (CH)
^ OTHER
