The Valley Vista Pit is located approximately 2 miles south of Grand Junction on 32 Road. The inspector was
accompanied by operator s representative Alan Parkerson.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule 3.1.12. The sign
was posted at the main entrance coming of off 32 Road. T-posts delineate the irregular permit boundaries.
Two stockpiles of material were noted on the site. There was no equipment observed on site. A truck scale is the only
apparatus noted within the permitted area. No storage of hazardous or toxic materials were seen. Overall, it appears that the
approved Mining Plan is being followed.
Previous inspections had questioned the amount of topsoil available for reclamation. The operator is importing topsoil /
overburden to be used when reclamation commences. Although staff has no problem with the imported materials. the
operator needs to suooly an Notice for the importation as required under Rule 3.1.5(9). This issue is not beinc listed as a
problem, but needs immediate attention. Please supply the appropriate notice
2003.
No significant erosional features were noted on the affected areas of the site. Storm water appears to be being retained on
site. The main road has some rilling, however this appears to caused by precipitaion directly onto the road and not from run off
from elsewhere.
Sloping has been done along the eastern edge of the permitted area. At this time the slope appears to be 3H:1 V or better.
Some volunteer vegetation of Downey Brome and rubber rabbit brush were noted. There has been no revegetation efforts to
date in this area. No noxious weeds were observed on site.
The pit sits on a dry high desert mesa surrounded by dry rangeland. Therefore, there are no hydrological issues.
The Financial Warranty was last reviewed in 1997. Staff will recalculate the bond within the next 30 days and apprise the
operator of any changes.
No other issues were noted or observed.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3`" Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Alan Parkerson
OPERATOR Parkerson Construction
STREET 710 S. 15'" St.
CITY/STATE/ZIP Grand Junction.
