• (Page 2) •
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-86-002
INSPECTION DATE 3-11-98 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
This was a routine monitoring inspection of the Whitewater Quarry. The site is permitted to
disturb 8.4 acres, though the legal description in the application states 9.289 acres. The
operator has indicated a desire to revise the reclamation permit to clarify the intent for
gravel extraction above the sandstone deposit prior to quarrying the sandstone. The operator
ie encouraged to clarify the pexmit area legal description in that revision application.
Annual reports for this site indicate that it has been inactive since 1994. The operator
must submit a request for temporary cessation as required by Rule 1.13 for sites that are
inactive for 180 days or more, or document activity that has occurred in the last 180 days.
The operator indicated that the size of the phased disturbance is too restrictive too allow
for gravel extraction which moves much faster than the sandstone. The operator indicated
that he would submit a revision to change the phased requirement. He understood that this
would change the reclamation cost liability.
There was not a straw bale filter dike at the lower end of the site as the permit requires.
The operator indicated that the dike was torn up by the cattle that free range around the
site. He indicated that a depression was constructed in the quarry area which intercepts any
flows from affected areas and acts as a settling basin for the minimal runoff observed at
this site. The operator will also need to include this change into the approved permit
through the revision process.
The jog in the northwest corner of the permit boundary is not clearly marked on the ground
and is not shown on the operator's annual report maps. The operator needs to place
additional permit boundary markers at this location and must submit the correct annual report
map in the future.
I ~ E Contact Address
NAME Rudi Fontanari
OPERATOR Western Slope Flagstone
STREET 3316 E 3!4 Road - Route 1
CITY/STATE/ZIP 1;f on, o~orado Bls 0
cc: Tom Gillis, DMG
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
^ OTHER
