T
III. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Minerals and Geology. This site is entirely reclaimed, with a total reclaimed area of
about seven acres. Ground conditions on this day were very dry and the weather was hot.
Availability of Records
The mine records are kept at the office of the Las Animas County Planner at the
courthouse. A copy of the current insurance certificate was filed in the Compliance
Files notebook. All records were found in order as required.
Hydrologic Balance
The sediment pond was in good condition and was dry. Engleville Gulch was also dry.
Revegetation
The reclaimed area is very dry due to the extended drought in the region. At this
time, the vegetation seems to be surviving but soaking rains would be of great benefit.
Cattle were not observed on the site but were observed in the adjacent rangeland. The
landowner, Milton Montoya, was filling water tanks from a small hole of water north of
the bridge across Engleville Gulch. He indicated he is out of winter pasture at this
time and is feeding his cattle already this year.
Slides and Damage
The small subsidence feature repaired last year shows no sign of settlement or further
collapse.
Overall the site appeared in good condition for summer.
Page 3
