The operator was contacted about the inspection, but was no present for it.
The site is identified by the sign required by the Rules. The portal is closed by a locked steel door.
Items of note included:
1. The operator has removed the last of the old Ipre-lawl oil barrels from the stream channel within the permit area. They have
been removed from the site, and there is no further trace of the oil or sludge in the puddled water at that channel location. This
inspector feels that this problem with maintaining the hydrologic balance has been abated.
2. The operator has repaired the adit drainage pipe which was inadequately laid several months ago. The route is still from within
the portal, crosses the main bench toward the south, then falls toward the creek parallel to a natural topographic drainage, and
ending where the outlet is located at the edge of a fairly calm portion of the stream. Lrge rock has been placed there to dissipate
the +/-100 gpm flows. There is no apparent stream scouring. The pipe is buried, with no exposed sections nor evidence of poor
bedding or settling. The affected surface has been left somewhat rough, but the material texture will allow it to quickly smooth
as it weathers. The area is ready to be seeded. The operator is therefore encouraged to begin revegetation of this portion. This
area will presumably not be redisturbed, may erode if not stabilized soon, and must be reclaimed before release. After such
reclamation is attained on affected portions of the permit, the overall bond may be reduced from any current recalculations that may
be performed.
3. Some minor cleanup work has been performed adjacent to the creek bank, by the piling of some of the scattered debris from
the mill building. Whatever means the operator plans to employ to dispose of this material, this affected area along the banks must
also be graded and fully reclaimed according to the approved plan.
4. The underground mining equipment is gathered near the portal door. The track is still in place, and the three buildings still
present. Debris in the form of old pipe and track, plus miscellaneous parts is piled near the portal also. The operator has apparently
removed some of the parts and debris from the site, which will be considered when the recalculated bond is examined.
The operator is encouraged to continue cleanup of the site of all unnecessary items, whose removal would have to be bonded,
commence reclamation activities on all areas which will not be redisturbed, for more timely reclamation, and then communicate
these activities to this office in order to influence the bond amount.
There were no problems noted during this inspection.
