III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Seneca II Mine conducted by Erica Crosby of DMG. No
company representative was present during the inspection. The Seneca II Mine status is active.
Both the Wadge and Wolf Creek Pits are open and will be reclaimed in 1998. The inspection
involved viewing four aerial photographs taken by Harry Ranney of DMG on December 16, 1997.
Weather conditions on site appeared clear. Snow cover was predominate throughout the mine
site.
Roads Roads were under snow cover, and access appeared questionable to certain portions of
the mine.
Hydrologic Balance Sediment Pond 008 appeared to contain water, but was covered with
snow. Outlines of ditches could be depicted in the photos, but could not be assessed due to the
snow cover. No significant erosion features were noted on the four aerial photographs.
Backfilling & Gradino No current backfilling and grading activity was noted in either the Wadge
or Wolf Creek Pits. The lower end of the Wolf Creek Pit has been backfilled and topsoiled.
Both the Wadge and Wolf Creek Pits are open, and are scheduled to be reclaimed in 1998.
Backfilled areas appeared stable, and no erosion problems were noted.
