:• •
• (Page 2)
MINE ID aX OR PROSPECTING ID N M-1990-070
INSPECTION DATE 6-27-2001 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
OBSERVATIONS
This was a partial inspection of the Eureka pit conducted as part of DMG's ongoing monitoring program for permitted mines
in Colorado.
The site is in substantially the same condition as described in the August 19, 1996 inspection. Problems listed in that
report (copy enclosed) are still problems except that the material stockpiled around the trees on the processing area has
been pulled away from the trees.
Permit boundary markers that had been replaced are gone again. These markers need to be reinstalled at least at the
corners of the permit area. The slopes are still not backfilled to a 3:1 as specified in the permit. It appears that these
slopes were not ever at a 3:1 and cannot be returned to a 3:1 grade without substantial importation of material. Some
material has been backfilled against the toe of the slope to stabilize it, but it appears that much more material would be
needed to accomplish this task. San Juan County has indicated for several years that a permit revision will be forthcoming
to resolve these problematic issues, but that revision has not been submitted. Failure to address this problem by August
31, 2001 may result in an enforcement action.
San Juan County will need to adequately address all problems noted in the previous inspection report (enclosed with this
reportl, except for the partially buried trees problem which has been resolved, by the August 31, 2001 date noted above.
No significant infestations of noxious or other problematic weeds were noted on site during this inspection.
No significant erosional features were noted on the affected areas of the site.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Steve Shuey at the Division's Durango Field Office. The address
is; Division of Minerals and Geology, 701 Camino del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, phone no. 970-247-5062.
I & E Contact Address cc: Tom Gillis, DMG
^ CE
NAME Louis Girodo ^ BL
OPERATOR San Juan County ^ FS
STREET 1512 Greene Street ^ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Silverton, Colorado 81433 ^ HMWMD ICH)
^ SE
^ WOCD (CHI
^ OTHER
