MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: nn-tale-nAx
INSPECTION DATE: $2{1tPmhar ~ e 9nn7 INSPECTORS INITIALS: -DB2_
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine inspection conducted by David Bird of DRMS. Greg Gerganoff, Safety & Environmental
Coordinator, was present during the inspection. The site is located in Jefferson County, about 5 miles north of
Golden.
The material mined at the quarry consists of an igneous intrusive rock that is used as road paving product.
Mining method includes drilling and blasting, followed by excavation by loader and transport by haul truck to
crushing and screening facilities for later transport off site by semi-trailer.
No issues were observed that require immediate attention. Water usage for dust control and other operations
allows net water consumption and no discharge water leaves fhe site. Multiple staged storm water control
ponds see rare use beyond the first, uppermost pond. No erosional issues were seen. Interim reclamation
performed in the past appears stable with healthy vegetation and minimpt erosion,
Water was observed in the bottom of the pit, but Operator indicated that the water was not ground water and
was a result of runoff from recent precipitation. No ground water seepoge was observed discharging from pit
walls.
The mine is currently excavating above the water table, so impacts to the ground water hydrologic balance
are not an issue as yet. However, future expansion of the pit, which has an estimated 20 years of remaining
reserves, will consist of deepening of the pit with no lateral expansion. Thus, the pit may eventually intercept
ground water, and at that time, ground water protection measures will need to be addressed.
The last inspection conducted by the Division at this site occurred in 1998. In the ensuing nine years, additional
site disturbance together with inflation have resulted in an increase in the required Financial Warranty. The new
Financial Warranty was calculated to be $509,387, an increase of $274,250 over the existing Financial Warranty
of $235,137. This has been cited as a problem on page 3.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Stan Oooerman.
