Colowyo C-1981-019
20 June 2007 ~~
Pg 4/6
Hydrologic Balance (cont.): -Sump 1 was dry at the time of the inspection; the
bottom of the sump was only muddy. The sump was stable at the time of the
inspection.
- Sump 2 was dry at the time of the inspection; the bottom of the sump was only
muddy. The sump was stable at the time of the inspection.
-Sump 3 contained was dry at the time of the inspection. The sump was stable at
the time of the inspection.
-Sump 4 contained only a very small amount of water approximately and was not
discharging at the time of the inspection. The sump was stable at the time of the
inspection.
-Sump 5 contained water approximately six inches below the top and was not
discharging at the time of the inspection. The sump was stable at the time of the
inspection.
Backfilling and Grading: -The operator has completed the earthwork with the 101
dragline on the east edge of the East Pit. The wedge of approximately 2,000,000
cubic yards has been moved and used to fill the area immediately to the west. The
area is close to final grade but some dozer work remains. The 101 is currently walking
along the north edge of the open East Pit performing reclamation work. It was at
approximately the half-way point of the East Pit. Once the 101 is finished with this
reclamation work, it will be decommissioned and dismantled. There is still a lot of
dozer work remaining in the East Pit at this time.
- The Operator has completed the earthwork in one of the drainages in the Gulch A
watershed. There is a large amount of riprap on site that needs to be placed in this
drainage. The operator has provided the Division with the survey data for this
channel. It will be compared with the design specifications in the office.
-The 102 dragline has been working on reclamation at the west edge of the West Pit
for several weeks. There appears to be a fairly large section of the West pit that is or is
approaching final grade.
-The top of the West Pit overburden stockpile still needs to be removed to the new
approved elevation as permitted in Technical Revision 63.
- Last year the operator completed approximately 80 acres of backfilling and
grading in the East Pit (achieving final grade) but did not spread any topsoil. The
SEDCAD modeling for the ponds in the watersheds of the East Pit are dependent on
keeping up with the topsoiling and seeding of regraded lands. If the operator gets
behind in this area the worst-case SEDCAD model will be exceeded, leading to
possible serious problems with the associated sediment ponds. The operator must
topsoil and seed all of the acres backfilled both last year and this year to avoid any
problems.
Support Facilities: -The facilities area was in good condition at the time of the
inspection. No problems were noted with the area.
-The Gossard Loadout appeared to be stable and in good condition at the time of
the inspection.
