INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 2
FILE NO. 81-165
DATE: September 26, 19.64
OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:
1) The mine is not operating as approved by the permit. The permit
approves a cyanide vat leach operation in steel tanks - the operator is using
a tailings pond for a cyanide heap Teach.
2) There is no upslope drainage protection above the leach operation,
or downslope catchment system below the hedlp leach or the cyanide mixing tank.
3) The operation is located within an open range area currently used by
cattle. It is also heavily used by elk and deer hunters. There is no fencing
to exclude cattle, wildlife, or people from access to the leach pad or cyanide
mixing tank.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Implement a drainage and spill control system and place a fence around
all potentially hazardous portions of the operation. Also, the area being
used as a leach pad must be analyzed to determine if it is properly designed
for this use.
These items should be addressed as a revision to the permit.
GRS/sms
cc: G.
