A site inspection was made of the Platte Valley Pit as part of the Division's on-going 4-
year inspection program. Jamie W. Gaboriau of CAMAS Colorado, Inc. was present during the
inspection.
2. The Platter Valley Pit remains inactive, ie: mining has not yet commenced at the site. The
current finaric ial warranty is $5,000 in the form of a Corporate Surety. The reclamation cost
was reduced t:o $5,000 while the pit is inactive via the Division's May 28, 1996 approval of
Technical Revision No. 1. Under the terms of the approved revision, the operator has
committed to provide written notification to the Division at least 30 days prior to mining
so as to upgrade the bond amount accordingly. As of 7/21/95 when the permit was transferred
from C & M Aggregates, Ltd. to CAMAS Colorado, Inc. the reclamation cost and financial
warranty was se[ at $95,000.
3. The site is permitted for a total of 191 acres. Open pit, dry mining methods will occur
with dewatering and discharge to the S. Platte River via an NPDES Permit. The operator will
maintain a 100-foot setback from the river during mining and reclamation. Phased reclamation
will occur with a maximum disturbance of 29.5 acres at any one time. Two (2) excavated cells
will be clay lined for water storage. Pit slopes will be regraded to a maximum of 3:1,
topsoiled, a:~d seeded above the anticipated water line. Remaining affected lands will be
topsoiled to a depth of 6" - 10" and seeded with rangeland grasses (blue grama, sideoats
grama, western wheatgrass).
4. This inspector notes that the permit area was not marked and the entrance sign was not in
compliance with the requirements of Rule 3.1.12 (see attached copy). The Division considers
this matter to be a problem and requests that the operator mark the permit boundary and post
an entrance sign as required by Rule 3.1.12 within 60 days. Photographs verifying completion
of these tasks should be submitted to the Division on or before the 60 day deadline. Please
see page 3 for corrective actions.
I & E Contact: Address
^ CE
NAME Jamie W. Gaboriau ^ BL
OPERATOR CAMAS Colorado, Inc. ^ FS
STREET 3605 S.
