III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado DRMS. No one represented the
operator during the inspection. The mine site was mostly covered in slushy snow.
Signs and Mazkers
The mine ID sign was on the post but the post was on the ground. The post needs to be put back up.
Surface disturbance markers were up around the site.
Road
The paved entrance road was slushy but was passable. The road over the river was also passable.
Facilities
The entrance gate was locked. The "no trespassing" sign was up on the gate. The abandoned mine
office building continues to deteriorate.
Hvdrology
There was slushy water in the sediment pond at a level about one foot below the primary discharge
pipe invert. The gated valve was closed and the emergency spillway was functional. The pond
embankment appeared to be stable. The collection ditch leading into the sediment pond had snow in it
but the ditch had sufficient capacity.
The spring water treatment pond was discharging at about 20 gpm. The dischazge was the usual orange
color, which has been Found to be in compliance. The water level in the pond was about 8 inches
below the horizontal pipe. The pond inslopes and outslopes were stable.
The caps were on both of the alluvial well pipes. No problems were noted with the wells.
The east spring was flowing into its channel, which leads, through a culvert, into the spring water
treatment pond. There was some water vapor visible where the spring comes out of the ground and also
on the hilltop directly about the spring.
c:/word/bear3/insp0307
