III, COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE /I/1~~/ ~+~v -0~6
~ y~ l 1'G'T~l y '~noi ~
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Marr Mine conducted by Jim Stark of CDMG. The
mine has been reclaimed and a proposed decision for a Phase II Bond Release for
the 720 Pit and Pit 1 and a Phase I Bond Release for the Loadout has been issued
and will become final on 5 August 2001 if there are no objections. The weather was
warm and overcast and the ground was dry.
Sians and Markers: All of the necessary signs were posted at the mine site and
loadout (Mine ID signs, topsoil stockpile signs, permit boundary signs, etc.).
Roads: -The access road to the loadout was well maintained and in good condition.
-The permanent light use road (former haul road) that remains on the site is also well
maintained and in good condition.
Hvdroloaic Balance: - Pond A did not contain any water. The pond was well
vegetated and in good condition. There were six dead cattle in or around the pond.
These cattle need to be removed from the mine site.
- Ponds B and C were also dry. They were well vegetated and in good condition.
- Pond D contained water but was not discharging. The pond was well vegetated
and in good condition.
- Pond E contained water but was not discharging. The two culverts that run from the
outfall under the road are half full of sediment and need to be cleaned out. The
pond was well vegetated and in good condition.
- Pond F was dry. It was well vegetated and in good condition.
- Pond G was dry. It was well vegetated and in good condition.
- All four of the permanent drainages (PDl and PD2 in the 720 Pit, PD3 in Pit 1 and
PD4, also in Pit 1) were well vegetated and in good condition. None of the
drainages showed any signs of erosion.
Reveaetation/Reclamation Success: The entire mine site has been revegetated. The
Division proposed a decision to approve a Phase II Bond Release for the 720 Pit and
Pit 1, which will become final on 5 August 2001 if there are no objections. The
vegetation in the Marr Pit area is not as dense as that in the other areas but there
does not appear to be any problem with erosion. Vegetation is beginning to grow in
the rill and gully area that was recently fixed in the Marr Pit Area. The vegetation at
the loadout is growing nicely. There are no erosional problems at the loadout,
The reclaimed areas appear to be in good condition and are recovering nicely since
the grazing that was done in May/June. There are six dead cattle in and around
pond A that need to be removed from the site.
