Present during the inspection was Mr. Paul Hunt of Lafarge
West, Inc. Digital photographs were taken and are attached to this report.
2. The Gypsum Pit is permitted for a total of 155.6 acres. The pit is mined using conventional dry mining techniques, as
the sand & gravel deposit occurs on an allwiat terrace high above the Colorado River. The operator was currently
working in the Phase 3 Area where topsoil had recently been stripped and salvaged for reclamation. The operator has
completed excavation in the Phase 2A area and was almost done with excavation in the Phase 26 area. The Phase 1 area
is still in use as the plant site area. Mr. Hunt indicated that the water table is approximately 24" below ground surface
even though the Colorado River is approximately 20' below the ground surface at the Gypsum site. The Gypsum Ranch
Pit will be reclaimed to general agriculture. The operator has posted a financial warranty of $446,143 which appears
adequate to reclaim the existing and planned disturbance.
3. The operator has done an exemplary job of contemporaneous reclamation where possible.
4. No problems were noted during the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Mr, Eric Reckentine
OPERATOR: Lafarge West, Inc.
STREET: 10170 Church Ranch Way, S ~itP 20_x____ 0
CITY/STATE/ZIP: WestminstPr~CC) 80021
cc: Carl Mount, DMG (via E-Mail)
Mr, Paul Hunt
Lafarge North America
Western US Region
P.O.
