(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1991-097
INSPECTION DATE 11/21/02
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
This inspection was preformed as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division of Minerals ahd
Geology. Ouray County representative Bob Wolford was present for the inspection. The Triple R Pit is a 112c permitted site
within Montrose County, but operated by Ouray County. The Pit is located on the east side of Highway 550 approximately 9
miles south of Montrose.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule 3.1.12. The sign is
located at the main access to the site. Although the sign meets the requirements of the Rule, the paint is getting faint and
some general maintenance is in order to prevent a future issue. Boundary markers were t-post and white PVC pipe that were
readily identifiable from a distance.
Noxious and/or problematic weed infestation was observed within the affected area. The infestation, if not controlled, will most
likely hinder and/or delay successful reclamation of this site and contribute to off-site spreading and establishment of these
weeds. The operator has been doing extensive Control for burdock on the lower portion of the undisturbed areas in Phase 1c.
Knapweed and Canadian Thistle were observed in the Northeast and Southeast corners of the current piton temporary slopes.
The infestation is light and there is moderate grass growth in the area. This issue is not being listed as a problem currently as
the operator has an active program that will address the issue. If control measures are not instituted or significant progress
towards eradication observed, this may be listed as a problem at a later time.
Current disturbance is confined to the area kndwn as Phase 1a. Two trucks with a loader were observed hauling stockpiled
materials off site. The stockpiles on site appear to be pea gravel and some river run up to 4-6 . Temporary slopes have been
established along the east and south of the current disturbance. These slopes will most likely stay in place until mining
activities are completed in Phase 2a, which is well into the future at current rates. The slopes were observed to have crested
wheat grass, timothy and other grasses in moderate to good density and diversity. No erosion or sedimentation issues were
observed on site.
Topsoil is being stockpiled along the western edge of Phase 2. The protective vegetation is sparse but the operator has
attempted to seed. Local extreme precipitation shortfalls have created undesirable conditions for any vegetation efforts. No
erosion issues were noted.
All power poles are stable and excavation is well away from the base of them.
No groundwater has been exposed at this time. The operator plans on staying just above the water table until absolutely
necessary. All storm water appears to be contained within the pit area. No evidence of offsite impactor disturbances were
observed.
This site is a county run operation and is not subjected to the same reclamation bond requirements as other operators.
Therefore, the bond was not reviewed.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Bob Wolford
OPERATOR Ourav County
STREET P.O.
