The Gray Pit #1 application is for a I12c permit to expand the current
approved 110 permit { M-2002-057). The operator wishes to expand the existing boundaries by 200 feet along the
west and north sides to fully mine the existing gravel deposit.
The required public notice was noted at the entrance to the site along with the proper sign for the 110c operation.
All current boundaries were well mazked and easily observable. The mine is active with trucks and a loader hauling
gravel off site from observed stockpiles.
A scale house and scales has been constructed on site that is not noted within the 112 anplication or the approved
110c Hermit. If this had been a normal monitoring inspection, this issue would be listed as a problem. However,
because this ispre-operational for the 112c application, the inspector will address the issue as p_ut ofthe Adeauacv
Review to ensure that it is noted on maps, in the Mining Plan and covered under Reclamation Costs.
As noted above, the purposed expansion will push the boundaries out along the west and north by 200 feet. The
new boundaries will carry over the existing ridgeline. When mining is completed the overall height of the ridgeline
will bereduced asoverburden /waste materials will be used to establish the fina13H:1 V slopes. The proposed plan
will reduce overall slope height and length, which appears to alleviate the concern forhigh, steep slopes aftermiiung
is completed.
Vegetation in the proposed area is mainly pinion and juniper with very little to no grasses. Topsoil and overburden
materials appear to be very limited and the operator will need to take great-caze to preserve what is on site. A
written commitment to not remove any topsoil or overburden from the site will need to be part of the approved
pe7txlit•
A sepazate issue of current hazardous materials and waste storage practices will be addressed in an inspection report
for the 110 permit. However, a clear and precise plan for secondary containment of such products will be required
for approval of this application.
No other issues were noted at this time.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rtl Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address cc:
NAME: Nick Grav
OPERATOR: Nick Grav
STREET: 584 65.30 Road
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Montrose.
