(Page 2)
MINE ID# OR PROSPECTING ID# M-2004-009 INSPECTION DATE 04/29/04 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRS
OBSERVATIONS
This was a Pre-operational inspection in response to an application for the Turnpike Mining
Resource conducted by Gregg Squire of the Division of Minerals and Geology. Rob Laird from
Asphalt Specialties and Peter Wayland of Weiland,Inc., were also present. The pit is located
about three miles west of I-25, on the north side of Colorado Highway 52.
A public notice stating that a permit application had been applied for was posted at the
entrance to the permit area. A general inspection of the area was conducted, including a
tour around the proposed boundaries and an on-site review of the proposed mining and
reclamation plans. It was also observed that there are a large number of structures on the
site, including irrigation ditches, power lines, oil wells and gas pipelines. It was noted
that the applicant is in the process of obtaining agreements with the owners of these
structures, and has agreed to maintain 200' setbacks until the agreements are finalized. It
was also noted that there has been previous mining on the site, which resulted in the
presence of a lake on the site. The earlier mining had been permitted by the Division, the
site had been reclaimed and the earlier permit has been released. The inspector did note
that there are a large number of Russian olive trees and what appears to be white top on the
site. These plant species should be aggressively controlled to ensure that the site can be
released upon completion of the reclamation.
There were no problems noted during the inspection which should cause unanticipated
difficulties in the permitting process.
I & 8 Coatact Address
NAME Mr. Rob Laird
OPERATOR Asphalt Specialties, Inc. j' CE
STREET 7321 East 88`h Ave. j' BL
CITY/STATE/ZIP Henderson, CO 80640 j' HW
j' FS
j' HMWMD (CH)
j" SE
j' WQCD (CH)
Cc: Peter Wayland, Weiland, Inc.
Carl Mount; DMG Via a-mail
