Loye
Dear Sirs
JUL 2~ 19$2
MINED LAND f?ECLAMATIDN
Colo. Dept. of Natural Resoerce~
I regret not being able to be present when you made your inspection
of our MacKenzie Pit, your file Of 80-224, on July 9, 1982, since I
was paving on a State Highway project at Texas Creek, Colorado.
I shall go over your observations of importance, referrenced by
ntuuber.
1. I'm sure I have misstated area C as being reclaimed. What I
meant on the annual report was that the mining was completed in that
area. The mining we have done so far in [he pit was cleaning up along
the property line for two reasons. One, to recover much wasted
material which is of very good quality. The produced material in this
pit meets state highway specification for grading "E" and "EX" hot
bittaninus paving without the addition of hydrated lime for mineral
filler or Acra 300 no strip. Either of [hese added materials increases
the price of the finished product nearly $2.00 per ton.
Secondly, to get roam to work without having to move overburden more
than one time. As we strip ahead, we can build our slope in one oper-
ation. The overburden is becoming quite heavy in the area we are now
working, and the gravel face less due to staying above the water table,
but we feel the extra expense of working the operation in this manner
is worth doing because of appearance and will make a much more desir-
able industrial site when mining and reclamation are completed. The
slopes shall be built to the specified 3t1. They are now not quite a
2t1. This done purposely, first to alleviate vertical banks for safety
sake, and next to leave room to build the slope fran the bottom up for
compaction.
2. The gullying occurred approximately two weeks ago.
