The operator was not present during the inspection. The
site is located 1.5 mile north of Suena Vista in Chaffee County, Colorado.
The Buena Vista Pit is a 112 sand and gravel operation, permitted for 23.81 acres. A 110
permit was issued on April 21, 1982 for a permit area of 9.5 acres. The permit was converted
to a 112 (CN-O1) on December 15, 1999 to add an additional 14.31 acres for a total of 23.81
acres. The Division holds a reclamation bond in the amount of $42,600.00. The approved
postmining land use is wildlife habitat.
A mine identification sign was observed at the entrance to the site. Permit boundary markers
were noted on site. Mining was not taking place during the inspection. In 1987, TR-02 was
approved to mine leas than 180-days a year. A small pit is located on site and is
approximately 15 feet deep. The material mined consists of cobbles. A large berm consisting
of topsoil and overburden surrounds the pit and appears to be a visual and noise barrier for
the adjacent homeowners.
Approximately 7 acres has been reclaimed on the north end of the pit. Slopes have been
graded, topsoil replaced and revegetated. Vegetation is well established and no erosion
features were noted. A few plants identified consist of Rice Grass, Rabbitbrush, Yucca,
Intermediate Wheatgrase and Sagebrush.
I & B Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Ms. Denise Gonzales ^ BL
OPERATOR Hard Rock Paving & Redi-Mix, Inc. ^ FS
STREET PO Box 1720 ^ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Canon City, CO 81215-1720 ^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
cc: Carl Mount; DMG (via a-mail)
