III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />This was an aerial inspection of the West Elk Mine based on photos taken Thursday, <br />November 21, 2002. The weather was clear. Active mining is going on, although the <br />minesite itself was relatively quiet. Drilling activity at the remote degas sites has ceased for <br />the wrnter <br />The Lone Pine fan site had some snow cover in the sheltered areas. The development <br />waste pile appeared stable and there was no erosion. The site of the former topsoil pile <br />likewise showed no erosion. There was no erosion or instability on the fill at the fan site <br />itself. The road was in good condition, snow-covered along the sheltered portions. <br />
