(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1991-079
INSPECTION DATE 4-6-2006
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
This was a routine monitoring inspection conducted as part of DMG's ongoing monitoring program for permitted mines in
Colorado.
This pit is currently approximately 15 feet deep. water that flowed in during flooding of the adjacent Colorado River in late May
2005 has been pumped out. The flooding resulted in three erosional features on the south side of the pit. The erosional
channels have been backfilled and final grading remains to be completed. The area of the easternmost erosion channel is to
be shaped into a swale to direct flow to the pit at this location during future flood events. Elam Construction, Inc. is also
creating some shallow swales perpendicular to the river to attempt to slow any flood flows as they approach the pit. A revision
to the permit for these features is to due and will reportedly be submitted to DMG in the near future.
The center erosional channel had extended beyond the property line onto BLM controlled surface area that lies between the
river and the mine. This channel was located on a highpoint between the two other channels that are located in swales. The
location of the middle channel indicated that it most likely resulted from initial piping from the BLM property to the pit. The BLM
reportedly told Elam that they had no preference as to whether the erosional features on BLM property were repaired or not.
These features were repaired by Elam and will reportedly be revegetated as well. Elam will need to submit a letter from BLM
indicating their approval of these repair operations and, if applicable, their approval of proposed revegetation measures to be
performed on BLM property.
The reclamation cost estimate will be calculated with the revision submittal.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Steve Shuey at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3`' Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone number 970-243-6368.
I & E ContactAddress cc:
^ CE
NAME Gayle Lyman ^ BL
OPERATOR Elam Construction.
