WHITE - PUBLIC FILE YELLOW - OPERATOR

PINK - CORRESPONDENCE
This was a normal monitoring inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG along with Bill
Tezak of Colorado Quarries, Inc. The site is located approximately 3-4 miles west of Canon
City, Colorado and 2-3 miles south of U.S. Hwy 50. The site is a rather large quarry
operation where several minerals are quarried for use in various construction products such
as pre-formed decorative rock siding and floor tiles.
The identification sign was properly posted at the mine entrance and contained the required
information. The affected area boundary markers were also properly posted and clearly visble
to delineate the affected area boundary.
The mine site is well maintained and a lot of clean-up has occurred with respect to common
waste such as old tires. In addition, the operator is essentially re-mining a rather large
old waste pile to extract useable product out of is and then regrade the remaining waste into a more
compatible slope gradient that can be more easily reclaimed. The operator had borrowed some soil along
the western edge of the affected area and was getting close to the boundary. The inspector informed the
operator that he should be careful not to disturb areas outside of the approved affected areas.
Several volunteer junipers were observed in one of the areas that had been revegetated and it was
suggested that the operator may want to incorporate additional augmentation of junipers into their
reclamation plan.
I ~ ontac Add = cc: Jim Stevens
~ CE
NAME Bill Tezak ~ BL
OPERATOR Colorado Quarries Inc ~ FS
STREET P.O.
