OBSERVATIONS
'p site inspection was made of~the M & G Pit. Present during the inspection were Ben Frei
Al Frei & Sons, Inc. and Steve O'Brian of Environment, Inc. The inspection was conducted
as a follow-up to a previous inspection by the Division on February 27, 1998. The purpose
of the inspection was to complete measurements necessary for calculation of a current
reclamation cost of the pit.
2. The following shoreline areas were measured and estimated as follows:
Southeast Shoreline - 1900 linear feet, 15' high, averages 2:1 slope
Southwest Shoreline - 700 linear feet, 12' high, averages 2:1 slope
West Shozeline - adequately regraded to a 3:1 slope
3. The operator estimated the depth of the northern portion of the existing lake to be 4
feet deep. The operator is currently required to fill in the lake according to the existing
reclamation plan,
4. There was a significant volume of tires and non-roadable mining equipment to be removed
during final reclamation. Approximately 18 flatbed trailer loads of this equipment will need
to be removed.
5. There is also a lake immediately east of the current plant site. Approximately 2,000
linear feet of shoreline ranging from 0.5:1 to l:l will need to be regraded to a 3:1 slope.
6. The Division has calculated a total cost of $269,000 for remaining reclamation
responsibilities at the Home Place Pit. See attached copy of the reclamation cost. This
cost includes the cost for filling the shallow lake at the north end of the permit area.
This lake is approximately 10 aczes in size. As mentioned in the Division's previous
inspection report, the operator has the option of submitting an application for a technical
revision to allow the shallow lake/wetland area to remain "as is". If the 10 acre lake were
to be left "as is°, the remaining reclamation cost will be $39,000. See attached copy of the
reclamation cost.
The Division is also calculating current reclamation costs for other sites permitted by Al
Frei ~ Sons, Inc. and covered by the existing financial warranty of $396,000. Following
completion of current reclamation cost evaluations for permits M-78-255, M-81-096, M-83-033,
M-86-079, M-79-165, M-77-526, and M-77-011 the Division will notify the operator of the total
warranty required.
I & E Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Albert Frei ^ BL
OPERATOR Albert Frei & Sons.
