(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1984-044
INSPECTION DATE 10117/05
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS RCO
This inspection was pertormed by the Division as part of its monitoring of Construction Materials 112c permits. The operator
was contacted about the inspection, and the operator's representative named on page one was present during the inspection.
The site is identified by the required permit ID sign posted at the entrance gate to the site (though it should be noted that the
permit number on the sign is incorrect, and should be changed to the correct number, noted numerous places in this report.)
The permit boundaries are delineated by fencelines, and all activities are well within the boundaries.
The pit has not changed in several years, except for minor amounts of gravel removed from the few existing stockpiles. The pit
slopes are generally stable, though not all of them are currently graded to the final 3:1 gradient that is required in the approved
reclamation plan. Reclamation should include careful and selective earthwork to attain the final slopes.
Future mining activities could be carried out on the unmined land in the west end of the site as well as the NW and NE corners,
comprising up to 4 acres. The pit floor is generally flat and dry, but should not be deepened. Several factors exhibited indicate
that groundwater is not far under the elevation of the floor: abundance of young narrowleaf cottonwood trees, large patches of
sedges and rushes, and areas with a thin layer of (recently developed) peat.
There is a minor amount of old mining and asphalt botching debris, mainly contained in the eastern end of the site. These
items may be buried onsite during reclamation or removed.
Topsoil is scarce, and every effort should be made to salvage topsoil from future areas to be disturbed during mining or
reclamation. There is a low berm of topsoil along part of the NE boundary and part of the southern boundary. Though the
reclamation plan requires that topsoil be replaced on all areas to be reclaimed, if adequate stability and existing vegetation can
be demonstrated on areas not covered by topsoil, the plan might be revised to allow limited areas without topsoil. If the
operator wishes to import topsoil from offsite sources, please contact this office first to discuss revising the plan.
Other than leaving some of the pit slopes at 3:1 gradient, no reclamation has been carried out. The site, however, contains no
equipment, no debris, no contaminants and no noxious weeds.
No further items were observed during the inspection. Responses to this inspection report should be directed to the Division of
Minerals and Geology, 701 Camino del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, Attn: Bob Oswald; phone no.970-247-5193.
I & E Contact Address cc: Harry Posey, DMG
^ CE
NAME Randal Arredondo ^ BL
OPERATOR Saquache Countv Road and Bridge ^ FS
STREET PO Box 655 ^ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Saquache CO 81149 ^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WOCD (CH)
^ OTHER
