- ~'~
• •
INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 2
FILE N0. 80-121
DATE: February 15, 1985
OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:
1. Lone Tree Creek flows directly into the Pierre Pit and has flooded the
pit. It would exit to the south with high water.
2. Topsoil is being stored at the southwest corner of the mine.
3. There exists a pile of concrete/dirt to the southwest.
4. Vegetation consists of willows some grasses and considerable weedy species.
S. There exists an asphalt plant waste pile and some trash near the old hot
plant site.
6. Pit slopes are probably too steep at the northeast and the south and
southwest portions of the pit.
7. Grading is excellent to the north and northwest; topsoiling has not yet
occured.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. The Division recommends burial of any materials from the concrete/dirt
pile not used during the course of mining.
2. Final seeding should help improve the vegetation diversity. The operators
suggestion to plant seedling willows or cottonwoods is excellent.
3. The plans to utilize the asphalt plant waste pile are good and will serve
to eliminate the pile.
4. Trash should be removed or buried if feasible.
5. It is realized that the slopes are steep in areas yet to be mined. Please
be sure that slopes are 3:1 or less when grading is complete.
6. Topsoil should be distributed over those areas graded to final
configuration.
7. Please submit the new maps and letter response as discussed in the field.
It was good to meet with you and your cooperation is appreciated. Please feel
free to call with any concerns or questions.
al
