INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 2
FILE NO. M_77~pp4
DATE: Julv 17. 1986
OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:
1. Inspector met with Mr. Jim Piper on-site.
Z. The lower sediment pond is filling, but flows seem to be contained.
The pond should be maintained and extended to the north, possibly to the
adjacent fence.
3. Much runoff has left the stockpile area above the restaurant and is cutting
the south side of the access road. Sediment is being deposited off site,
south of the access road.
4. Internal sediment ponds look good (along mine road).
5. All of the gullies mentioned in the May 2, 1986 report have been partially
checked; however, work still must be completed to remedy the prot~lem.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Extend the lower sediment pond to the adjacent fence and also thfa rock berm.
Maintain as needed.
Z. Erosion and deposition along the south side of the a:cess road is a problem.
Eventually, a sediment pond may be necessary, but for now, incre;ise the
upper berm (stockpile area) by using coarse material to bolster 'the existing
berm. We recommend that an additional berm be placed between the "growth
medium/visual berms" (just south of the office parking area). This will
help slow flows and trap some sediment.
3. All gullies mentioned in the May 2, 1986 inspection report should be filled,
by using large rock (rip-rap size) to hold the toe, and then filled in with
gravel. Fines (asphalt fines/sands) should not be used since they will
quickly wash out. The large gully north of .the main plant seems stable,
but all other gullies (north of stockpile area, adjacent to gulch and above
the restaurant) should be filled and maintained as discussed above. The
fines used to fill the berm should be removed where feasible since they
will only wash out over a relatively short time.
4. Please complete these measures no later than August 17, 1986 and notify us of
the completion.
(Rev. 9/63) (OVER)
Doc. No. ~2~P
