Pa e 3
I MINE ID#OR INSPECTOR'S
PROSPECTING ID #: M-1973-021 INSPECTION DATE: 7/21/06 INITIALS: CMR
4. Reclamation
a. Reclaimed area above Central Quarry. An approximate 11.6 acres area above and along the west
side of the North Quarry has been reclaimed. The benches have been backfilled and revegetated. The
slope was approximately 2 vertical to 1 horizontal. The slope appeared reasonably well vegetated and did
not show evidence of soil movement (these observations were made from the far side of the quarry)
b. Backfilled Slope. A Technical Revision (TR02) was approved for the design and construction of
engineered terraced slopes as a way of disposing of waste material and mitigating visual issues along an
older wall on the northwest side of the mine site. Two contiguous areas to the west of the North Pit have
been reclaimed so far. These areas are an initial test of the method of installing the engineered backfill.
There was an investigation of the slopes occurring at the time of this inspection. The slopes were not
revegetated, with the exception of some trees near the top of the slope.
5. Water Storage. The Central Quarry had been turned into a water storage reservoir for the Town of
Morrison (AM04). During the inspection the reservoir appeared full. A pump station had been constructed
above the reservoir along with a pipeline to carry the water offsite. According to the Operator
Representative the reservoir will be moved to the North Quarry once mining is completed there, and the
Central Quarry will be filled and used as a processing area for the next expansion of the mine into the South
Quarry (AM05).
6. Spill Control Measures. The spill control measures for fuels and other industrial materials were
examined. Secondary containment was in place and properly functioning at all the areas inspected. Spill
control equipment was in place. The Operator Representative stated that the Operator had an up to date
SPCC on file at the site.
7. Mine Operations. The mining appeared to be progressing in accordance with the mining plan for the
site. Active mining was occurring in the North Quarry, proceeding down and in a westerly direction.
No other problems were noted during the inspection.
