Walther
Executive Director
Ronald W. Canany
Acting Division Director
The following are results from the survey of the Southfield Mine properties that was performed on December 5, 2002.
1. Footprint of the refuse pile in acres: 37.26 acres
2. Footprint of the borrow area: 2.83 acres
3. Footprint of the Pond 3 disturbed area: 2.94 acres
4. Pond 3 topsoil pile area: 0.47 acres
5. Volume of topsoil remaining at NW corner of refuse pile: <500 cubic yards
6. Slopes of the newly constructed drainage ditch through Pond 3 going downstream from station 0+00:
Sta 0+00 [o I+00 + 0.07%
Sta 1+00 to 2+00 -1.16%
Sta 2+00 to 3+00 - 0.21
Sta 3+00 to 4+00 - 0.81
Sta 4+00 to 5+00 - 1.61
Sta 5+00 to 6+00 - 1.72%
The 100 year diversion ditch around the waste pile had positive drainage throughout [he entire circumference
with the exception of a 50 foot section at the extreme N W comer of the refuse pile. This section has a slight
rise of < ]inch. After the first flow of any significance, this problem could clear itself.
8. A 100 foot section of Magpie Creek at a point of about 325 feet upstream the grouted riprap section, 1"rock
energy dissipater, rises approximately 3 inches. This problem should also self correct after the first storm of
any significance.
9. Four slope gradients of [he refuse pile were taken, two a[ [he NE comer and two at the SW comer. The results
were
NE Cm. 30.05% and 32.10%
S W Cnr. 10.27% and 24.59%
I have attached a small drawing of the survey for reference.
