A site inspection was made of the Colorado Red Rose quarry as part of the Division's on- <br />going 4-year inspection program. Present during the inspection was Dan Liesveld of Colorado <br />Red Rose Corporation. <br />2. The Colorado Red Rose quarry is permitted for a total of 0.5 acres. The quarry was in <br />existence and use long before 1977 and is used to produce 10 to 20 ton granite blocks. The <br />blocks are then taken off-site and converted into monuments. The operator has posted a <br />financial warranty of $500 in the form of a Certificate of Deposit. Both the pre-mining and <br />post-mining land uses are granite quarry. Reclamation of the quarry will consist of forming <br />a stable, level bench area that can be used as a future home site. The working face of the <br />quarry (where blocks have already been removed) is stable and will not require any <br />reclamation. The operator has not excavated further into the hillside or disturb any acreage <br />in addition to the "pre-law" disturbance that existed at the time Permit No. M-78-332 was <br />issued. <br />3. Current mining consists of lowering the elevation of the existing mine bench. The process <br />is fairly slow, but the operation is active. The existing mine bench is nearly level and <br />only a very minor volume of finish grading would be necessary. The finish grading work could <br />easily be accomplished with a small piece of farm equipment, rather than a dozer. This <br />inspector finds that the $500 financial warranty is adequate to complete the reclamation <br />plan. <br />4. There was no entrance sign as required by Rule 3.1.12. The Division considers this matter <br />to be a problem and requests that the operator post an entrance sign by July 14, 2000.
