A site inspection of the Geisert Pit was made as part of the Division's on-going 4-year
inspection program. The Geisert Pit is located in north Greeley at approximately 933 N. 11th
Avenue. Present during the inspection was Greg Nelson of Weld County.
2. The Geisert Pit is permitted for a total disturbance of 113.6 acres. (The mining and
reclamation permit was amended in 1998}. The mine plan specifies dewatering and dry mining
methods. Mr. Nelson indicated that Weld County has secured the necessary approvals from the
Office of the State Engineer (OSE) for exposure of groundwater. The post-mining land use is
private recreation. Completion of Che reclamation plan will result in the creation of a
park, wildlife habitat, and several lakes for private recreation. There is no financial
warranty required of this operator.
3. The Geisert Pit is currently active with mining (excavating) occuring in the east cell.
There is a lake approximately 17 acres in size with exposed groundwater. Mr. Nelson
indicated that approximately 25$ of the available gravel deposit in this area has been
removed. Topsoil has been salvaged and stockpiled nearby for use in final reclamation.
4. The west cell of the Geisert Pit has been mined and reclaimed to a recreational lake. The
operator has done a good job of grading the shoreline slopes and surrounding area. These
areas have been topsoiled and seeded with the reclamation seed mix. These slopes are not yet
ready for release of revegetation responsibilities.
I ~ E Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Mr. Greo Nelson ^ BL
OPERATOR Weld County Mining Division ^ FS
STREET P.O.
